let's make tahini

hello friends!

Today I made homemade tahini. Tahini is an absolute wonder to have around the house. You can use it in hummus, salad dressings, dips and sauces, or just spread on toast.

To make 1 cup of tahini all you need is:

  • 1 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • pinch of salt and lemon juice (optional)
To start, toast your sesame seeds. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the sesame seeds evenly on the sheet and bake for about 6-8 minutes. Make sure you don't over toast them! Once finished, transfer to a bowl to prevent them from cooking further.

Next, grind the seeds in your food processor or high speed blender for about a minute or so until they have broken down.

Now start to drizzle in your olive oil, and pulse in between. You might need to pause and scrape down the sides with a spatula. Continue until it has formed a consistency to your liking - I like my tahini to be extra creamy. If you want to add some salt and lemon juice, do it now.

Once finished, seal your tahini in an air tight jar and keep in the refrigerator! There you have it, you made tahini! Give yourself a pat on the back.

Have a wonderful day, lovelies!
